Simon Downes receives The High Sheriff of Worcestershire Award

Simon High Sheriff Award

In March, Simon Downes, Managing Director, Witley Jones Furniture, was presented with The High Sheriff of Worcestershire Award for his great and valuable services to the community for his longstanding volunteer mentoring for Mentor Link

Richard Amphlett, The High Sheriff of Worcestershire, had chosen Mentor Link as one of his two chosen charities, presenting awards to two volunteers.

Simon has been a volunteer mentor for the Worcestershire based charity for over 5 years, supporting young people during this time. He meets with each of his mentees once a week to talk and help with the challenges they are facing in their lives.

Simon commented “It is an absolute pleasure working with the Mentor link team and other volunteers. I am humbled to receive this award on behalf of all at the charity.

“I decided to volunteer as I felt it is important to give something back to the next generation, supporting them with the difficulties in their lives to enable them to enjoy more of life without so much stress and anxiety.

“I would urge anyone that can spare some time to get in touch with the office in Stourport it really is a wonderful charity that offers young people with much-needed support alternatively if you can make a donation it would help tremendously. I intend to continue to work with Mentor Link and support young people for as long as the service is required.

Mentor Link is dedicated to supporting vulnerable and distressed children and young people by providing them with a one-to-one mentor. Mentors provide support and guidance around difficulties including self-harm, bullying, bereavement, and family relationships.
